Description
I created this design from early childhood memories of my dad. The photo is of my first birthday. The inside circles of sunflowers symbolize the Bronx, New York corner candy store stools we would spin around on and enjoy chocolate egg cream sodas made from the fountains. Dad would get us tall pretzel sticks, coloring books, comics, candy or other goodies, as we spent special time together. The turtle symbolizes when a small plastic, movable turtle came out of the charm machine. I was fascinated with the way it jiggled. My dad told me that it is beautiful to see me have such joy from a simple thing. That was and still is a valuable lesson for me. The antlers represent Morris the Moose tales my dad would make up, at story time. Morris was his name before he changed it! I painted this picture as his health was deteriorating. He passed some months later, at 88.
